The Small-Space Haven

Alex on June 17, 2019

Whether you’re just starting out a career, family, or have been in the game for a long time, you simply cannot deny the fact that here in the Philippines, most especially in metropolitan areas and developing cities, everyone seems to have adapted the fast-paced way of living. Everything from food, transport, and internet speed, we expect everything to be as fast and convenient as possible. The way of life certainly shapes the how and the where of living—this is why condominiums are very popular with working class and modern-day citizens.

Strategically located at the heart of highly urbanized areas, condominiums are the practical and convenient choice. Not to mention the time (and stress) you save up otherwise spent in traffic. Nowadays people just want a space to live in where work and all other activities are just a ride or walk away.

The rise of condominiums also paved the way for condo interior design trends. Condominiums are accessible, yes, but this doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice comfort for convenience.

This is the magic of MVRX Designs; turning an empty space to a place you can call your own.

The vast array of interior design trends over the years speak for itself. There is no one formula for small condo interior design as each one is tailored fit to the taste and preference of a client, but if there’s one (or two) things these trends have in common is that they tend to lean more on the mix of modern style and contemporary influences.

5 Tips to Ensure a Timely and Contemporary Design

If you’re new to the world of interior design, things can get overwhelming real quick. No need to fret, after all, the end goal here is to find and create a design that works for you. If you’re looking for a design that’s modern, or a style that hints contemporary flavors, or a mix of both—the key here is efficiency. You may not have the grandeur of space but anything can be luxury if you make the most out of it, here are a few tips to make sure you do just that:

  1. Personal is functional

You have to first figure out your personal necessities and how you will be using your unit. If you see your space as more of a place to relax, it only makes sense that you go for a spacious living area. If you’re the type that likes to have friends over, then you can opt for a larger dining and kitchen space. Whatever your preference is, the design structure has to flow around that.

  1. Every space should serve a purpose

Having a small-spaced haven can be very limiting, but only if you don’t plan it well. That is why space planning should be a top priority, every space should serve a purpose. If you have a look that your aiming for, the furniture you buy should build around that, and not the other way around. As much as possible, make sure all the stuff in your unit is are as functional as they are decorative.

  1. Incorporation of storage systems

Other than minimizing clutter, storage systems like wall-mounted shelves, wall niches, and built-in storages can actually serve as additional interior design too!

  1. Create additional “space” using mirrors

This tip couldn’t be more obvious and used tactic for small condo design, but there’s a very good reason why it is. Mirrors on walls create illusion that gives you a chance to visually expand your room’s space.  Aside from maximizing space, mirrors are also creatively used as design and installed for the purpose of being the “focal point” of the room.

  1. Color is key: Light and shades of white

More than aesthetic purposes, light colors like beige, off-white, soft shades of blue or gray actually create the illusion of a larger space by tapping in a sense of a light and open feeling. Dark colors, on the other hand, are commonly used to create a luxurious vibe. Although not the best option for tight spaces, dark hues on the ceiling actually create an illusion of height. If done right, both can work to your advantage.

Coming up with a design can be such a struggle—we know. That is why MVRX Designs has a team of well-experienced and diverse group of designers fully capable of meeting your interior design needs so that whatever your taste and preferences are, you can experience comfort in convenience the way you like it.
